The Francis Scott Key Lions Club recently honored its president, Toni Gray, with a Melvin Jones Fellowship (MJF). Gray, currently serving her fourth consecutive term as president, previously served three terms as secretary and a term as Visitations Chairman for the club, which she joined in April 2005. The presentation was made at the club’s annual picnic by Lions Clubs International District 22W Immediate Past District Governor Susan Bonura of the South Carroll Lioness Lions Club. Gray received a plaque and an MJF pin.
The Fellowship is named after the founder of Lions Clubs International and is one of the highest honors a club may bestow. Each MJF represents a $1,000 donation to the Lions Clubs International Foundation; for each subsequent $1,000 donation, the recipient receives a pin with an additional diamond and is known as a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.
Also attending that meeting as the Operation Blue Thank You, participant, was Officer Maggie Lee of the Frederick Police Department’s Special Operations Division. Operation Blue Thank You is the club’s initiative to thank our local police officers for protecting the community, inviting them to attend a dinner meeting as the club’s guest.
