Lions Clubs International District 22W Past District Governor and District Mobile Screening Unit Chairman Brian Cox recently spoke to the Francis Scott Key Lions Club about efforts to secure and place in operation a mobile screening unit for use throughout District 22W. PDG Cox, a member of the Terra Rubra Lions Club, stated that the District 22W Mobile Screening Unit will be a self-contained vehicle that will provide vital free services by screening to detect eye disease, vision and hearing loss, high blood pressure, and with appropriate expertise, diabetes, using state-of-the-art equipment. He estimated the cost of the vehicle to be $140,000 with funding coming from a mix of grants and personal and club donations. District 22W is comprised of Lions Clubs in Allegany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett, and Washington Counties.
Also attending that meeting as the Operation Blue Thank You, participant, was Officer Tony Lawson of the Frederick Police Department’s Special Operations Division. Operation Blue Thank You is the club’s initiative to thank our local police officers for protecting the community, inviting them to attend a dinner meeting as the club’s guest.
