2014-2015 FSK LIONS OFFICER INSTALLATION BITTERSWEET
June 24, 2014
The recent installation of 2014-2015 officers of the Francis
Scott Key Lions Club simultaneously was a happy, and a sad,
occasion.
The evening began on a sad note with outgoing president Paul
Gray announcing the June 21 passing of member J. Regis Hammond.
Lion Hammond, a Melvin Jones Fellow, transferred his membership
to the FSK Lions Club when he moved to the Frederick area 32
years ago, with his service in the Lions dating to 1954, a total
of 60 years.
PDG Paul Cannada’s installation ceremony briefly enumerated the
duties of each office and urged the new officers to work hard
and do their utmost to make the club more successful in the
coming year. In his acceptance remarks, new president Syed
Anderabi indicated three goals: to improve his own attendance,
since managing his multiple McDonald’s Restaurants sometimes
precludes his attendance; to work on increasing the club’s
membership; and to work with all the FSK Lions members to
publicize the activities and service of the club and its
members.
The newly elected officers installed that evening are: President Syed Anderabi, First Vice-president Duane Voitel, Secretary John
Aulls, Treasurer Darlene Aulls, Immediate Past President and
Lion Tamer Paul Gray, Directors Debbie Morehead and J. Lynn
Stimmel, Membership Chairman Barbara Myers, and Tail Twister
William Grove. Second Vice-president Danielle Allin and
directors Wilbur Rice and Gerald Stewart were unable to attend.
The meeting also marked the final opportunity to contribute to
District Governor Kent Eitemiller’s “Feed the Hungry” program by
bringing nonperishable food items which will be donated to the
Frederick Food Bank. DG Eitemiller originally had set a
district-wide goal of 25,000 food items to be donated to local
programs during the 2013-2014 year; however, that total was
reached so quickly that the goal was raised to 100,000 food
items. The district-wide total stood at 99,016 at the end of
May. The FSK Lions donated a total of 455 items to the Frederick
Food Bank during the 2013-2014 year, far surpassing the club
goal of 300 items.
The FSK Lions meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month
at 6:30 p.m. at the Barbara Fritchie Candystick Restaurant, 1513
West Patrick Street, Frederick. Dinner is $16.50 a person; for
reservations, contact Secretary John Aulls at 301/662-2360. For
additional information on the FSK Lions or on becoming a Lion,
